Martha Speaks is an animated series on PBS kids aimed at viewers between the ages of 4 and 7 with the educational goal of teaching kids new words. Based on the children’s book series by Susan Meddaugh and published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, the series stars Martha, a beloved family dog. She is accidentally fed alphabet soup – this gives her the power of speech and the chance to speak her mind to anyone that will listen.

Between the Lions is an award-winning PBS KIDS television series that premiered in April 2000. Each show is designed to help kids ages 3 to 7 learn to read. The “mane” characters, Lionel (age 7) and Leona (age 4) serve as role models for younger viewers. Cleo and Theo are playful, understanding, and literary parents, who eagerly demonstrate the power and pleasure of literacy.
